I will be selling t-shirts in memory of my beloved beagle “Sulley” who is now passed to help raise money for SPCA Alliance rescue animals in need of help to be pulled from the local shelter, vetted, and placed in a loving home. Pre-orders start today and will continue for 3 weeks. I’m only accepting cash payments at this time to myself or you can swing by Albemarle Animal Hospital to pay for a shirt. They will be $25 a piece. See pictures for colors. The proceeds go to animals in need. When they are ready you can either pick them up at AAH or I will deliver them to you! Sulley wasn’t able to be pulled by rescue due to the expenses of the medical care he needed and that’s how he ended up with me, he could’ve had a much different fate. Let’s help all these babies be rescued that need it. Rescues work off local donations.

They are nonprofit organizations and they spend their days saving dogs and cats for the chance to give them a better future and they need YOUR help! February is dental health month for pets! Dental health is just as important in your furry pets as it is in you. During dental month, we want to educate owners about dental disease and what they can do to improve their pet’s dental hygiene. Routine dental care is an important way to keep your pet from needing oral surgery to treat infection, but also keeps bad dog breath out of the way of cuddling with your furry friend. Decay and infection can develop under the gumline, where we can’t appreciate it until it gets bad enough that we see dark black/brown tartar building up on our pets’ teeth.

Unfortunately, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats will have some form of periodontal disease by the time they are 3 years old. Early detection at your pet’s annual exams and regular cleanings are critical in preventing periodontal disease, mouth pain, and associated health problems. Bacteria in the mouth associated with periodontal disease can enter the bloodstream and be carried to other parts of the body, causing problems in and around the liver, kidneys, and heart.

Resources for pet owners are at avma.org/petdental. The materials consist of an overview of pet dental health, including information about the use of anesthesia during veterinary dentistry, along with videos on periodontal disease and how to brush a pet’s teeth and a quiz on pet dental health.

Last Day of Vet Tech Appreciation Week!

Our last Veterinary Technician to introduce you to is Kelly Baker. Kelly has been with Dr. Weeks at Albemarle Animal Hospital since the beginning and was with the previous owners, Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Gregg.

She is married to her husband Phillip and they have one beautiful daughter Paisley. At the moment they are looking for a new fur baby to add to their family.

Kelly's experience, coupled with her enthusiasm, initiative, compassion for animals and their owners, and her overall integrity led me to choose her for the Lead Technician position here at the hospital.

Now, with the impending retirement of Ms. Beth, I am pleased to formerly announce that Kelly will be stepping into the position of Practice Manager as of December 5th of this year. Thank you Kelly!!!
